2017 Social Media Bucket List

Social media is here to stay, but there are many ways to keep it exciting and engaging. Social media platforms are ever-changing with new features appearing what seems like weekly, it’s exciting to try new things. With the increasing popularity of features like live streaming on social media (see #2), it’s time to embrace these fun features in the new year. We compiled a social media bucket list of some of the things we want to try to keep SM exciting.

Here are 5 things that should be on your 2017 social media bucket list:

1. Post (more) Instagram stories

Or, post your first instagram story! This feature, released in August 2016, is another way to share what you are doing with a picture or video for 24 hours (similar to Snapchat stories). We don’t think this feature is going away any time soon, so embrace it! A fun way to post an Instagram story, that sets it apart from Snapchat, is to post a boomerang. Boomerangs are a fun time lapse video that takes your video back and forth through time.

2. Use Facebook Live

The best way to start is to just do it! Streaming on Facebook live seems a bit nerve-wracking, but once you do it for the first time, you will feel like a pro. The best time to Facebook live is at an exciting event. Whether it is a fun event with your friends, or a business-related event, you can share what’s going on in a fun way. Your friends get notified when you go live on Facebook, so go for it!

3. Make a Snapchat geofilter

Have you ever been out somewhere and you swipe to see a random snapchat filter for a birthday or engagement? You can make your own for a special occasion. For as little as $5, you can design a snapchat filter that will appear in a location of your choice. Don’t worry if you’re not a designer, Snapchat has templates that help you create your own masterpiece.

4. Value real-time posting

It’s great to schedule posts. It’s an organized way of pushing out the messages you know you want to cover on your page, and it helps check another thing off of a to-do list. But, don’t let real-time posting slip through the cracks. Your followers love to see real-time posts, and trust us, they know the difference. Make the effort to show your fans what is happening in your world as it happens. You’ll be pleasantly surprised at how well people react and engage with it.

5. Add your products to your Facebook page

Do you sell physical products? Then this bucket list item is for you. Try selling your products on Facebook. It’s simple to do, and will give your brand and products more exposure. You can push your products directly to your followers. It is another way to gain exposure and sell products!

6. Don’t forget about Pinterest

Share some of your blogs on Pinterest. Since we are not graphic designers…we create simple Pinterest graphics in Canva. Canva is a great resource for amateurs that want to add some flair to any social media post. Here is an example of a Pinterest graphic we made for Adam Kaufman. We stuck to his brand standards (makes designing a breeze) and put this on his Pinterest page and at the bottom of the blog on his website.

Social media isn’t going away in 2017, or hopefully ever. Add these social media ideas to your bucket list and watch your engagement soar. Embrace various platforms and their changing features. The better you keep up with the changes, the more you’ll be ahead of your competition!
