If Your Zodiac Sign was a TV Character

While I don’t take it too seriously, it’s super fun to learn about astrology. It’s not that I necessarily believe the stars line up perfectly with reality, but I think knowing a little bit about it makes for great conversations and getting to know others on a deeper level. It’s a fun hobby that opens lots of doors of conversation, even with perfect strangers. I’ve always been interested in how the stars, sun and moon align, but lately, the hobby has turned into a regular obsession.

Similarly, who doesn’t love digging into and over analyzing your favorite TV shows? The last decade or so has given us so much entertainment on the small screen it’s hard not to totally fall for these characters and want more of them, even when their series end.

So coupling these two topics together, I am attempting to put astrology into context, even for those non-believers out there. I decided to assign some of the world’s favorite TV characters to their appropriate zodiac sign. Maybe now those of you who are green to astrology can get your feet wet and dig into the conversation.

Fearless, fiery and fierce AF, I had to pick my girl, Daenerys Targaryen from Game of Thrones to lead this astro-pack of amazing characters. Aries are the ultimate alpha – personalities. Their order in the zodiac represents their high opinion of themselves  – they are number one, at least in their own minds.

“I will take what is mine with fire and blood.”

It was hard for me not to be a tad bit biased with my own sign, but its character hits the nail of the head. Stubborn, sturdy, loyal, and a little materialistic, the Taurus has high expectations of themselves, their things, and especially of others. Chuck Bass’s (Gossip Girl) characteristics exemplify a bull-headed Taurean impeccably. Don’t expect a Taurus to change, give up, or back down. It’s not their way.

“Is being dead that much worse than being nothing?”

Energetic, indecisive, yet incredibly charismatic, Gemini, or the twins, may drive you crazy with their multiple personalities, but they keep you coming back, EVERY.SINGLE.TIME. Similar to everyone’s favorite friend, Joey Tribiani (Friends), the Gemini has many faults, but their non-threatening nature keeps you engaged and totally obsessed with them.

“If you didn’t want to play, why did you come to the party?”

Sensitive, domestic and compassionate, I had to chose my girl, Charlotte York (Sex and the City) to lead the Cancer pack. Cancers are kind-hearted home-bodies who would do absolutely anything for their families and inner circles. They are loving, maternal and amazing friends.

“Allow me to get right to the point. After careful consideration, I have decided that this is the year I am getting married.”

Presidential and regal, Leo the Lion remains confident, and admired while keeping a super cool exterior. Passionate and king-like, it’s hard to argue with the likes of a Leo. Who better to fit in these big shoes that a president himself? Jeb Bartlet from The West Wing is a natural leader with great intensions and a pack of loyal followers.

“Decisions are made by those who show up.” – Josiah Barlet

No other character exemplifies this type-A, organized, perfectionist more than the head hostess herself, Monica Gellar (Friends). Virgos love rules, order, and doing everything according to pre-determined norms or their own high standards. They love formulas and make  great chefs, architects and mathematicians.

“Why didn’t you make a copy and keep it in a fireproof box and keep it at least a hundred yards from the original?”

Thoughtful, friendly, popular and lovable, Libras are the life of the party. Even better, their balanced nature allows them to maintain everything in life that makes them happy without sacrificing their lives or careers. In fact, Libra’s are most likely to become successful, just for being who they are. Who’s more popular, likable and successful than the most attractive Mad Man, Roger Sterling (Mad Men)? That’s right – no one.

“It’s Labor Day weekend. Between now and Monday, we have to fall in love a dozen times.”

Complex, intense and ambitious, no one personifies the sometimes conniving Scorpion like Sawyer (Lost). He’s competitive, yet kind. While he may have a hard exterior, it’s all love on the inside. While he may seem to have an agenda, keeping you at arms-length is just his way of warming up. Once you’re in the Scorpio’s inner-circle, you’re set for life.

“I’m a complex guy, sweetheart.” – Sawyer

Courageous, curious, independent wanderers, I think that the most fitting sign/character combination belongs to Khal Drogo, the Sagittarius. Sags, the only zodiac sign that combines human AND animal iconography, are extroverted yet independent and are known to lack some human emotion. Enter Khal Drogo from Game of Thrones. He is different than other humans, rough around the edges, but perhaps the most soulful of all, underneath it all.

“If this is a dream, I will kill the man who tries to wake me up.”

Ambitious and resourceful with impossibly high-standards, Capricorns have hints of Taurus and Aries narcissism, paired with the leadership skills of the Leo. Enter everyone’s favorite Veep, Selina Meyer to represent the Capricorn goat. She’s all about being in charge, and takes no prisoners on her way up the ladder.

“Glasses make me look weak – they’re like a wheelchair for the eye.”

Rebellious, independent and clever, Aquarians like to live life with no strings attached. Always finding unconventional and original ways to do life their own way, Aquarians are steady in their strangeness. Enter Fiona Gallagher (Shameless). She doesn’t let her circumstances depict who she is, and epitomizes a true original.

“If I don’t invest in myself, no one else will.”

Theory has it that you may only become a Pisces once you’ve lived a lifetime through every other sign.  That being said, Pisces are old souls whose dreamy outlook on life can be a little much for signs based in logic and common sense. While Dolores from Westworld, happens to be a robot, her personality is anything but robotic. Pieces care deeply about the world around them so much so that it has a tendency to affect other close relationships. Idealists to the core, Pisces never stop believing in love.

“Some people choose to see the ugliness in this world, the disarray. I choose to see the beauty. To believe there is an order to our days. A purpose. I know things will work out the way they’re meant to.”
